Hi,

There's none for checking how many times your device was rebooted but you can use the show version command to check for system uptime and reason for last reload.

Hi Johnlloyd,

thanks for the reply...

Naveen...

There is no direct command to know the last reboot. but you could find the last reboot from the command "show version". It helps to get the information of switch is up from particular date- same like uptime !

hope it helps

How is the system uptime vs system restarted different?

SWITCH# sh ver

...

SWITCH uptime is 12 weeks, 1 day, 23 hours, 25 minutes
Uptime for this control processor is 1 day, 4 hours, 20 minutes
System returned to ROM by SSO Switchover at 10:03:48 UTC Wed Nov 11 2020
System restarted at 05:06:44 UTC Thu Feb 4 2021
System image file is "bootflash:packages.conf"
Last reload reason: Critical process fed fault on fp_1_0 (rc=139)

How is that possible?

Thanks

@EmanuilSvetlinski14973 asks an interesting question "How is the system uptime vs system restarted different?" and highlights 2 items " uptime is 12 weeks" and "System restarted at 05:06:44 UTC Thu Feb 4 2021" which based on the date of the post would have been slightly more than 1 day but certainly not 12 weeks. I think there is a clue in this line "Uptime for this control processor is 1 day, 4 hours, 20 minutes". We do not know what model of switch this is, but I am guessing that it is a switch with dual processors. That the switch was brought up 12 weeks ago running on one processor. And that on Feb 4 there was a problem and it switched over to the backup processor. So the switch itself has been running 12 weeks while the processor has been running a little more than one day.

Thanks, Richard. How would I be able to check the reason for the failure or any logs on the failure from the device itself?

The switch only has 1 supervisor, not sure about how many processors it has. I checked the Data Sheets and documentation, but I don't see any information on that.

Thanks

There is one other line in the output that you posted that might shed some light on the issue

Last reload reason: Critical process fed fault on fp_1_0 (rc=139)

I am not sure what a critical process fault is, but it sure sounds like a software problem. You might look through flash/bootflash for any files created on Feb 4. I am not clear what options might be available for this switch in viewing log entries, but it might be possible that some log entry might have information. If you have a support contract for this switch I would suggest opening a case with TAC.

My only method of seeing when I network entity was down or unreachable, beyond the most recent occurrence, is solarwinds orion or similar. That gives me a history beyond the latest incident, even though it can be caused by multiple issues at that point.

Can you share the switch model?

In IOS XE it's possible to get the history of reloads , in 3k and 9k.

show logging onboard switch <> uptime detail
