I have connected a router to a switch with all the necessary configurations enabled. The ethernet port has no physical ip add only the subinterfaces has an ip add with different subnet masks with encap dot1q with its corresponding vlan no. specified. However, when i check the subinterfaces they are both physically up but protocol down (layer 2) and only the main interface is up on both layer 1 and 2. Checking the switch, the ethernet port connected to the router is also down on layers 1 and 2. I have made sure that trunking has been enabled on the switchport connected to the router and that both connected ports have the same encapsulation (dot1q).
I would appreciate any help regarding this. Thank you.

Can you post the configs of the switchport, and router?

What kind of router is this. Does it have an etherswitch card in it? If it does then you need to create the VLANs in the router. Posting the configuration would help.
