voice vlan on cisco 3548 switch

Hi,

I have a cisco 3548 switch.is it mandatory to configure the port as trunk in order to connect an IP phone?wht if i configure the command switch port voice vlan 2?

Hello Azharuddin,

if you have a C3548 XL device you will need both commands

actually when we use switchport voice vlan that is an implicit trunk or mini trunk of two vlans

since the port carries both data and voice traffic,so it is called as implicit trunk?and will my ip phone works fine if i do not configur the port as trunk?

Hello Azharuddin,

the switchport mode trunk is needed in this type of IOS/platform.

it is a question of IOS implementation you can see this command as a workaround.

newer IOS versions don't need it.
