Hi
I have configured Floating static routes with for failover scenario between two sites. When I unplugged the PRIMARY CONNECTION cable from SITE A then I could not see SITE B using BACKUP CONNECTION until I asked somebody to UNPLUG the PRIMARY CONNECTION cable from SITE B.Does this mean that FAILOVER will not kick in until both sides of the cable of a connection are disconnected ?
Thanks

Hello CCDE,
yes there is this problem
check reliable static routing
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_3/12_3x/12_3xe/feature/guide/dbackupx.html
Edit:
I have the impression you had opened another thread about this so I would suggest to go on on the older thread, specially if you had added more details about your scenario.
Hope to help

Hello CCDE,
>> How do I go back to that old thread I started ?
using the Next> link we can go to older threads
in the link I've provided it is explained how to track ip next hop address reachability.
this is what you need look at the section
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_3/12_3x/12_3xe/feature/guide/dbackupx.html#wp1071672
Edit:
unless your links are L2 links that changes the scenario
Hope to help

Unless the connection is a direct point to point connection and the failure involves Site B going operationally down (Site B fails or the cable is severed....basically anything that interferes with L2 keepalives), the floating static route will never be installed in the routing table and you will suffer packet loss ...
The other poster is correct in saying you need object interface tracking ...
