Hi,

You have to install the SDM package in any system which is able to communicate with your router.
Please see the below link to install SDM and basic router configuration to support SDM.

Second question,
If SDM is for GUI access for router, then what will help the GUI access for switches. Please help me with your valid answers.
Cisco has recently introduced a PC-based tool called Cisco Network Assistant (CNA) for configuring routers, switches, and access-points. CNA enables users to perform common tasks such as configuration management, inventory reports, password synchronization, and Drag and Drop IOS Upgrade for switches, routers, and access points.

Hi,
The router GUI is so called SDM where for ASA's will use ASDM.
ASDM gives a lot of routing configuration assistance in its GUI. SDM is a bit more basic than that in the routing arena. But once it catches up, most of the more routine and even moderately advanced routing features will be configurable via GUI.
Please see the below link for more inforamtion.

Hi latchum,
thanks for your reply.
So the basic GUI in the router is called SDM express integrated with the IOS.But if we want more features and advanced configurations we can install the SDM versios(except the basic SDM express which is programmed by deafult in IOS).is this rite.
And one more query what kind of tool is available for GUI of switch.is this same like SDM but in the switch also we have a basic GUI feature within IOS.is that because of same integrated SDM or something else.
Please elaborete.
Thanks
Sathya

Hi Sathya,
Yes, that is right.
Regarding GUI access to switches, I would suggest you using Cisco Network Assistant.
Below are the links to download the Cisco Network Assistance Software

Steps to install and configure CNA on switch
