So I'm having a strange issue with a new Cisco Catalyst 2960-C Series LL Switch.
I'm running windows 8 on my laptop and I downloaded and installed the cisco COM port drivers and connected to the switch with securecrt and was able to interface successfully with the switch. I disconnected and reconnected and verified the port was working correctly and went about my day.
However a couple of hours later I reconnected to the switch and it attempted to reinstall the com port driver, and kep trying and trying and trying and incrementing the port number it got as high as com port 1110 before I killed the process, deleted the com port entry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\COM Name Arbiter\COMdb
I uninstalled and reinstalled the com port drivers and tried again but it gets the same result.
Are there any known issues with Windows 8 and the Cisco Com Port drivers?

I too have this issue.. I've opened Cisco Service Request Number 626197917 on this issue. I am expecting Cisco to open a bug ID on this issue and get it assigned to the usb driver dev team to fix this incompatibility issue one way or another.

Thanks Saeed and Mandeep.. That link doesn't pull up the bug for us external folk, yet. I suspect it will eventually, though. It just says "Bug CSCuh52585 does not exist".
I appreciate the response and updates!

Indeed. I'm really puzzled though, how this hasn't been picked up before and hasn't already being fixed. It's not like Windows 8 only came out a couple of days ago or something, and it applies to all new Catalyst switches, ISR G2's etc also.
I have been tempted to open a TAC case about this in the past also but figured it would be much less hassle and less time consuming to just order some USB -> serial dongles online, so I did that instead
