Hi Has anyone here managed to recover local console password for WLC 9800? Not able to login to the WLC via console using existing local credentials at the moment. SSH not working either so trying to console into WLC and troubleshoot it.
Dont mind trying a hard reset on the WLC as well so i can configure from scratch as it is not in production.
Could not find any concrete steps on the web to help me with the above. Would appreciate any ideas
Thanks in advance.

Most basic and important question needs to be asked first: Is the command "no service password-recovery enable" present in the config?

9800 Password Recovery Procedure
NOTE: Step 7 is incorrect. The config-registry needs to be wound back to 0x2102. Source: Two weeks ago, I performed password-recovery on two 9800-40 and my last step was to set the config-registry to 0x2102.

What is the model of this 9800?
Please provide the complete output to the ROMMON command "set" and "dir flash:".

It is C9800-40-K9 model. WLC is staged in other location at the moment. Will try to get more info when have access to it.
Basically it was the usual booting up seq and we breaked it to reach to the rommon mode.
Thanks for replying.

When you performed the recovery for your 9800-40, what was your WLC version?

I do not seem to remember. It could either be 17.3.6 or 17.6.4.

Hello folks! @KTNgineer and @Leo Laohoo I'm going through the same problem... WLC 9800-40 is in stage, so no issue to hard reset. My question is about "break key" to access rommon. Is it Ctrl+C ? Could you share with me what sequence works for you?
Thanks!

I use Ctrl+Break.

Thanks @Leo Laohoo
I used putty (right click on the top of windows after console stableshed connectivity and select "special command > Break"
All the steps following the guide work for me...
Thanks for all
