cant i use a convertor ? to connect fiber to RJ 45 cable .
Sure. You can use either a 100BaseTx media converter or the more expensive 1000BaseTx media converter. If you have the 1Gb variety, then I'd suggest you weigh in the possibility of getting the 2960-48TC instead (it's got dual-personality copper OR SFP option). If you get the 2960-48PST then you get 48-ports of PoE, 2 x 1Gb SFP ports PLUS 2 x 10/100/1000BaseTx copper ports.04-01-2011 12:56 AM
Hi,
On a 1000BT port, you have only one choice is to connect a RJ45 STP cable.
On dual purpose port, you have two connectors, one on which you can connect RJ45 STP and another one on which you can plug one SFP module. The SFP module allows you to connect optical fiber cables.
Of course on dual purpose port, you can use only one part at a time.
Regards.
