WS-C4500X-16 non VSS

hi,

I have a topology that i have to upgrade and need some advice.

i have two 4500 router in one building with non-VSS konfiguration serving some access switches, now we have a second building and i want to stretch the switching domain to the second one, acquiring 2 other 4500 and using a link between the two building will be ok ? or should i add another layer (core) and connect then the core switches together, what is the best approach?

the new 4500 for the second building will be also in non-VSS mode.

As per the diagram shows the device each other pair connected to only 1 Cat 4500 (if this logical)

you need to have another connection between pair of 4K to Pair of 4K - so if one 4K go down other will have path ?

is this Layer 2 then you need consider STP loops and priority of the VLAN to make sure they equally split block mode.

1. if all teh devices are dual homed between pair of Cat 4K

2. Your access switches are dual homed to parent Cat 4K

3. your uplink to Internet also dual homed.

you can go ahead upgrade each 1 kit at time and reboot with new IOS, make sure you read the release notes before upgrading.

1. always read the release notes upgrading from to versions. and check comptatability.

2. take the configuration out of the box.

3. check the dependencies (like single connection link - that will go down when the switch reboots)

Sure that is good way moving forward with your upgrade,

Layer 2 - make sure you aware of Spanning treee

if this is Layer 3 with IGP,  make sure route available in mesh network.
