The WS-X45-Sup7-E features 4 x 10Gbps non-blocking switch ports when installed in the 4510R+E chassis. What happens to these ports during: a) a supervisor switchover and b) a supervisor software failure?
For instance, if there are WS-X45-Sup7-E installed in slots 5 & 6, and TenGigabitEthernet5/1 and TenGigabitEthernet6/1 are constituent interfaces of say Po1, what happens during a switchover from say, slot 5 to slot 6? Do both ports continue forwarding during the switchover? How about if the supervisor in slot 5 encounters a software or other failure that causes it to be down after the switchover to slot 6? Will slot 5's interfaces still be forwarding?
Trying to understand the behavior so I can weigh the options of using the supervisor uplink ports vs ports on a "less-complicated" line card.

yes if you enabled NSF - that should forward without any loss. (if the end device connected that Po1) - its like same way the LAG works, if one of the members fails another one still continues to work.
check some NSF guidelines:

Yes, as long as the sups are configured in SSO mode, and are both up and running.

No, if a sup fails, all ports in that sup will go down as well. So, in your case, sup 5 and all uplinks will go down and sup 6 and all its ports will be forwarding.

Also, I should've specified that these are L2 links only.

That is just fine!

yes port-channel in L2 should work as expected - if the end side connected as expected with the right config
