WS-X6548-GE-TX/Etherchannel

Hi,

The following excerpt is taken from Cisco documentation:

The WS-X6548-GE-TX, WS-X6548V-GE-TX, WS-X6148-GE-TX, and WS-X6148V-GE-TX modules have a limitation with EtherChannel. For EtherChannel, the data from all links in a bundle goes to the port ASIC, even though the data is destined for another link. This data consumes bandwidth in the 1-Gigabit Ethernet link. For these modules, the sum total of all data on an EtherChannel cannot exceed 1 Gigabit.

Does this apply to etherchannels that are created over multiple modules? ie: An 8 link etherchannel that has (card/port) 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4, 9/4, 10/4, 11/4. Or does it apply to Etherchannel configurations on each module?

This configuration has the WS-X6548-GE-TX module and the SFM2 mod.

Any advice would be brilliant..

Regards

What the document is trying to explain is that the 6548 and 6148 are oversubscribed modules.

Which means a group of 8 ports can only provide 1Gbps throughput combined (8:1 oversubscribed).

If you were to configure an etherchannel for bandwidth aggregation, keep in mind to have the bundle ports on different modules in order to sustain maximum throughput and avoid packet loss.
