Hi Guys,
Recently I got 2 6509-E and some linecards, everything works fine except 1 WS-X6724-SFP. If this card has installed in the 6509-E(let say A), it would show PwrDown, but if it installed in the 6509-E(let say B), it works fine, I have tried to use the other WS-X6724-SFP linecard and installed in other slot, same error. Then I have upgrade or downgrade the IOS and ROM, but with no used. Any idea? I would appreciate!

1. "enable module 7"
2. What's your power supply like?
08-24-2010 07:12 PM
Hi leolaohoo, thanks for you quick response.
Why I need to enable module 7? Since the module is in slot 1, and in fact, the slot 7 is installing the other module.
I have check the power, there is about 800 walts left, and I tried to release all other module, left ws-x6724-sfp and supervisor.
Both way is not working.

Hi Kam,
Do you have the same IOS and power supplies installed on both devices?
Reza

Hi Reza, thanks for your quick response.
The 2 switches are totally same hardware and IOS version. And the power supply looks fine, it left about 800 walts.

Typo on the slot number.
Can you show module so we can calculate the power you may require?
Alternatively you can use the Cisco Power Calculator:

Hi Kam,
If every thing is the same, take a flash light and look at the backplane of the chassis's pins. The pins may be bent. We have had quite few bad chassis's with bent pins (all 6509s).

Hi Reza,
I don't think there is a hardware problem, since I have tried to install the "bad" ws-x6724-sfp module in other 6509-E, and it will work fine.
For the "bad" chassis, I have installed other linecard(let say 10G module), and it will work fine.
08-24-2010 07:28 PM
in the same slot where you put the x6724?
08-24-2010 07:36 PM
Yes, same slot. But I also tried to installed the ws-x6724-sfp in other slot with "bad" chassis, not working.
If I put it in the other 6509-E, it will work.
So it is very strange, all ws-x6724-sfp cannot work in one 6509 but can work in the other one, and the 2 switches are totally same.

Can you post "sh environment status" and "sh environment status power 1" and "power 2" please.
What PS do you have?
08-24-2010 07:44 PM
The power supply is WS-CAC-3000W, since the switches is in the new site, I only got the show tech in my hand now, I can't give you the command you needed.

1. Have you tried the command "enable module 1"?
2. Have you tried moving the blade to a different slot?
3. And both chassis have only ONE (1) 3000w PS installed?

1. Have you tried the command "enable module 1"?
No, I will try this later. Thanks for your suggestion.
2. Have you tried moving the blade to a different slot?
Yes, but same result.
3. And both chassis have only ONE (1) 3000w PS installed?
Yes, for testing, I have installed 2 power supply in the chassis, but same result.
