Cisco Spark Room Kit unable to register with SIP to VCS

Hi,

I have a client who has just had their first Cisco Spark Room Kit installed by a third party provider and I have been asked to configure it.  It is running CE 9.2.5 and will register to a VCS appliance running X8.2.2 s/w.

Configuration for both H323 and SIP was entered, as is normal for this client, and when I checked the home page of the codecs web interface, I noted that the SIP registration had failed.  The status shows "404 Not Found / Policy Response."

The VCS has no registration policies in place.  The H323 registration to the same VCS is fine with status of Registered.

Any suggestion gratefully received.

Thanks,  Paul Richardson.

Setting up a SIP registration to the VCS should be relatively simple if the VCS is set to accept SIP registrations.

On SRK, all you really need to configure is the "SIP Proxy 1 Address" and the "SIP URI".   Also make sur ethat the "SIP Type" is set to Standard - I have seen issues where someone has previously changed this to "Cisco".

xConfiguration NetworkServices SIP Mode: On
xConfiguration SIP Proxy 1 Address: "your.vcs.here"
xConfiguration SIP URI: "endpoint@yourdomain.com"

The yourdomain.com needs to be one of the SIP domains configured on the VCS (found on the Configuration > Domains screen in the web interface of the VCS).

If you have registered your endpoint to a call control patform, it's also recommended that you turn the SIP Listen Port to Off:

xConfiguration SIP ListenPort: Off

Hi Wayne,

This endpoints SIP settings are identical to the other 26 endpoints already SIP registered to the VCS.  The remaining endpoints are all running TC7.3.x s/w.  I did wonder if it was the minimum TLS version that was the problem, so set the SIP signalling transport to TCP, but no different.

Hi Paul,

Check that the Spark codec has a SIP URI configured.  The SIP URI should be in the format alias@domain (e.g room22@company.com)

Check that the VCS has been configured with the same SIP domain (i.e. company.com) under Configuration -> Domains.  The VCS will accept SIP registrations for domains added to this list and reject SIP registration requests from SIP URI using unknown domains.

If you are still I unable to register the Spark Room Kit to the VCS, take a look at the VCS Event Logs to confirm you see SIP registration attempts from the SIP URI of the endpoint.

Best regards,

John

Hi Hitechtalent,

The VCS already has 26 SIP registered endpoints, so the domain has already been configured on the VCS.  Will see if I can spot anything in the VCS event or network logs.

Checked network logs on the VCS and see the registration request from the endpoint.  The VCS is sending a 404 not found back to the endpoint.  Opened a Cisco TAC case and they suggested upgrading the VCS to X8.11.3.  I reminded them that this is an appliance and that X8 Release Notes state that Cisco only support up to X8.6.1 on appliances.  Checked another client with CE endpoints on a VCS and they are fine on X8.5.2.  I will schedule an upgrade on my original client to X8.6.1.
