Cisco unified CM can't interwork with tandberg VCS as video call

Dear All,

Our company currently setup two video conference labs, Cisco and Tandberg.

Tandberg lab equipment list,

VCS-Control Version X6.0

Endpoint: TANDBERG1000 Version E5.2 PAL

Endpoint: Tandberg MXp95 Version F8.2

Cisco lab equipment list;

CUCM Version8.0.3.20000-2

Endpoint: CTS-500 Versoin CTS 1.6.0

With the document : D14602.07 Cisco Telepresence Deployment Guide, we tried to interwork both endpoint via SIP trunk.

In the testing, We dail an video-call from tandberg1000 to CTS-500. However, it can only setup as an audio call,

The search history of VCS-control is checked, as follows,

    • SearchRule (4)
      • Name: Route to CUCM
      • Zone (1)
        • Name: CUCM neighbor
        • Type: Neighbor
        • Protocol: SIP
        • Found: True
        • Reason: Bad Extension
        • Gatekeeper (1)
          • Address: 192.168.30.2:5060
          • Alias (1)
            • Type: H323Id
            • Origin: Unknown
            • Value: 4101@192.168.30.2

We assumed the call routing part is correct, and we guess there is a problem in video capability negotiation between Cisco and Tandberg.

Please give us some comment on our issue.

Thank you

Ben Lai

The CTS cannot make a point to point call to a non CTS system unless the CTS is on version 1.7.4 with a CUCM at 8.5+ and the H.323 endpoint supports H.264. This is a new functionality just recently released in the past couple of months. If you cannot get your systems up to these versions, there are several options to allow the two different types of systems to meet in a Bridge to allow interoperability. The easiest is probably the use of the Codian MSE 8000 Chassis and a TelePresence Sever Blade.

Thanks.

We are going to upgrade the CUCM and CTS in order to solve the problem.

In our current testing environment, the cisco video advantage (registered with SCCP to CUCM) can make a video call to TANDBERG 1000, but our team can't explain about that.

We have Telepresence server in our lab as well, and it work fine in this interoperability.

The reason you can get CUVA working with Tandberg while the CTS-500 can't is that CTS units (up until version1.7.4) use SIPMUX for call signalling and are not compatible with standard video endpoints.  Note that since we upgraded to 1.7.4 it all works fine
