It'll do a DNS lookup, so if the people you are calling have the correct SRV records in place then it'll work. If they don't, or if their system is not registered to a SIP proxy, well, then it won't work.
We use a VCSC/VCSE combo, and have both h.323 and SIP SRV records in place which point to the FQDN of the VCS-E sitting outside the firewall..
You should really consider upgrading your system though, latest version is TC7.3.2, but I would wait until TC7.3.3 is released some time in May.
If you don't have a valid service contract in place, then you can obtain a free upgrade by contacting Cisco TAC and reference this security bulletin; http://tools.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-20140926-bash - or even this one: http://tools.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-20140409-heartbleed scroll down and expand "Obtaining Fixed Software", then expand "Customers without service contracts" and follow the instructions.

Is your system "stand-alone" or registered to VCS or CUCM?
If stand-alone, it must have software version TC4.2 or later and you should be able to dial the given URI.
If registered with CUCM, then I believe this has to have software version 9.x or later as I don't think CUCM supported URI dialling prior to that.
Call protocol in both scenarios has to be set to SIP obviously.

Hi Jens,
Our SX20s all are standalone, running H.323 among them, and the version is TC5.x. In this case, you said I should be able to dial the given URI?
How my side SX20 could RESOLVE their URI and get connected, could you explain its working flow for me. Thanks.
Matthew
