Quick question, the MX300, can this endpoint make/receive calls without being registered to CUCM or VCS?

Hi Ben,
You can make calls using H323 without having to register the endpoint to any specific call control. The H323 mode would need to be set to 'Direct'.
The best practise, in this type of deployment, for making calls externally is to setup a static NAT for the endpoint and the NAT address entered into the associated field on the endpoint.
There are risks acossiated by this, ensure you have a strict, secure password on the endpoint and also beaware that you may be prone to 'probe calls'. These can be very frustrating for end users.
Kind regards,
GK
