Hi, We have about 8 video endpoints (C20, SX20) registered to CUCM 8.6 soon to be 9.1. We're looking at deploying VCS Control (100 traversal / 10+ non-traversal licenses) to act as a gateway to Microsoft Lync 2010 and VCS Expressway for internet calling and to reach a hosted video bridge.
If we're connecting VCS-C to CUCM and Lync via SIP trunks, will a C20 to Lync call take up a non-traversal or traversal license? I understand if it is SIP to SIP it will be non-traversal of which there are fewer included licenses.
If all the non-traversal licenses are in-use on a VCS-C, can the VCS-C use a traversal license in place of a non-traversal license? I have heard yes and no from multiple sources on this last question.
If a SIP based C20 to Lync call counts as a non-traversal call and a traversal license cannot be used, can the VCS-C be connected to CUCM via H.323 instead of SIP to cause a traversal license to be used for a C20 to Lync call (or vice versa)?
Thanks in advance,
Jason

Hi,

Encrypted calls to and from Microsoft OCS Server 2007 / Lync Server 2010 where the Microsoft OCS/Lync B2BUA is not being used. If the B2BUA is used, the B2BUA application always takes the media but the call is not classified as a VCS traversal call and does not consume a traversal call license (it may still consume a non-traversal license if the VCS takes the call signaling). Note that the Enhanced OCS Collaboration option key is required for encrypted calls to OCS/Lync.
2. If all the non-traversal licenses are in-use on a VCS-C, can the VCS-C use a traversal license in place of a non-traversal license?
>>>VCS-Expressway can do it. VCS-C control can't,let me verify this.
3. If a SIP based C20 to Lync call counts as a non-traversal call and a traversal license cannot be used, can the VCS-C be connected to CUCM via H.323 instead of SIP to cause a traversal license to be used for a C20 to Lync call (or vice versa)?
>>>No You can cannot configure CUCM as H323 neighbor and is not supported.
Let me know if you have any queries.

Sagar
