To summarize:
what are the difference between VCS Expressway and Expressway ?
- VCS Expressway or Traversal Server is the "legacy" which supports local registration from external H323/SIP based endpoints using its H323 Gatekeeper and SIP registrar functionality. Also it serves as the traversal server for VCS Control (traversal client) to support firewall traversal calls and B2B.
- Expressway is composed of Expressway Core and Expressway Edge or they call it "Collaboration Edge". The concept of Expressway is same as the "legay" VCS Control + VCS Expressway to provide firewall traversal, B2B calls. Expressway is an extension for CUCM controlled environment for Mobile and Remote access. With Expressway, external clients/video endpoints can register on the CUCM without using VPN. In this case Expressway don't support local registrations for endpoints. Endpoints will register locally on CUCM using the Expressway (Core + Edge) firewall traversal technology.
Do Expressway need a HW ( server ) , it is just license in CUCM I have to purchase ?
- Expressway needs a server and it can be deployed in a virtual environment.
You may take a look at Cisco Business Edition 6000 (BE6K) offerings:
as pre sales engineer , when can I choose VCS-E ? and when can I choose expressway ?
- I would suggest to get in touch to your Cisco representative in assisting you to find appropriate solution for your customer.
