5.5 messages to 2003 messages

I plan on upgradding a 3.1.5 voicemail only with exchange 5.5 to a 4.0.4 with exchange 2003. Since the initial integration was voicemail only i'm concerned on how to get the messages over to the 2003 exchange after the upgrade, especially if it is a different domain. Is there any documentation concerning this?

so I take it the 4.0(4) system with be UM with existing mail accounts that are already in place, right? if that's the case, this can get tricky. If the mail alias (mailnickname) value in the new system match the aliases you used in the 5.5 system, this should work - however that's rarely the case.

i just want to verify the procedure for upgrading the system.

1. Dirt the 3.1.5 system that is configured with exchange 5.5

2. Wipe the server clean

3. re install the OS and Unity to 3.1.5 with the voicemail only license and now pointing to the new exchange 2003 domain

4. Use Dirt to put the original config back on the new system

5. Install the new license for UM

Could you verify this procedure. i feel like i'm missing something here

No, Unity 3.1(5) cannot connect to an Exchange 2003 - you'll need to upgrade the 3.1(5) system to 4.0(4) first, then DiRt it then import it onto the new Exchange 2003 system.

If there are accounts that have different mail aliases, those users are created as new users - just be aware of this. You'll want to carefully review the alias rules you've used on both systems so you know what to expect. Be sure to check out the migration and upgrade guide:
