Hi, we currently have call manager 6.1 and want to upgrade to 8.0. how do we upgrade to 8.0 due to the requirement for Cisco contact centre express which we are told works only with version 8 call manager. we have two call managers (publisher and subscriber) and a 3845 cisco router gateway with PRI line. our hardware is based oN 7825H3 servers with 2.13GHZ CPU and 2048 MBytes memory. we are using ip phones 7911G, 7961G and 7960G.
my questions are as follows
1. do we need to by new hardware or can we just load the new software on the same hardware?
2. do we need to also replace the handsets?
3. do we also need to upgrade the unity connection to the same version?
3. do we also need to upgrade the meeting place express?
4. how is the licensing handled in this case? do we need to by new licences or use the current ones?
your assistace will be highly appreciated.

Hi Emmanuel,
I cannot answer directly your questions since I don't know the exact version of the products you have but here are the documents that you have to check
1. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr.html#wp43011
You will see a table with all the supported upgrades to every 8.0 release. Check your full callmanager version against that table.
My guess is that if you are on 6.1(2) and above it should be feasible (but do check)
2. Your phones will still be functional as per the following link
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr.html#wp207347
You can see in the table the default load for the every ip phone supported
Here is the relevant section
--------------------------------------
Any version of Cisco Unity Connection 2.x or later is supported for use with any version of Cisco Unified CM 4.1(3) or later.
-------------------------------------
4. Meetingplace express is not supported with CUCM 8.x
5. You need to purchase a new license for every major upgrade (ie from 6.x to 7.x, from 6.x to 8.x, from 7.x to 8.x etc etc)
So basically you can find everything from the Callmanager release notes

Christos
