Can Unity Connection subscriber backup be restored into publisher server?

Hi There,

A restoration scenario for active/active unity connection cluster.

We would like to schedule Unity Connection Pub configuration backup daily, but voice message option backup weekly due to the large amount of users and size.

One restoration scenario when the Unity Connection Publisher server is crashed and we have to re-install the cluster while the sub is still working, and the subscriber has the updated voice message.

When doing the unity connection pub reinstalling and restoring the configuration/message, is there any way to restore the subscriber server’s updated message to the new installed publisher server? Or put in a simpler word, can we use the backup from the subcriber server for the cluster restoration? Isn't this the same scenario as normal Unity failover(not unity connection) setup in which the backup is configured on the standby unity server and used it for the restoration?

If the above option is not valid, can we use COBRAS to export the information from the in-service subscriber server for the cluster re-installation?

Thanks,

JJ

Hi JJ,

You wouldn't need to restore the Messages in this scenario, they would be

replicated back to the Pub automatically

Replacing a Publisher Server or the Hard Disks in a Publisher Server in a Connection 7.x Cluster

Revised March 4, 2010

You can replace the publisher server or replace the hard disks in the publisher server in a Connection cluster without replacing the subscriber server. During the time that the publisher server is not functioning, the subscriber server handles all functions for the Connection cluster to avoid loss of service to the system.

When replacing either the server or the hard disks in the server, you must install a replacement publisher server; you cannot convert the subscriber server into the publisher server. (Replacing hard disks requires that you reinstall all software on the server, so you effectively have a replacement server.) On the replacement publisher server, you configure a new Connection cluster. When you connect the subscriber server to the new Connection cluster, the subscriber server replicates its data to the replacement publisher server without loss of service to the system. When the replacement publisher server has Primary or Secondary status, it begins to handle calls again.

Hi,

You can't take a DRS backup from the secondary and restore it on the primary.  These backups are machine specific and need to be restored on a machine with the same hostname and IP from where they were taken.

Unity Connection does have the capability when in an active/active cluster to copy the database and messages from one machine to the other.  So for example, if you lost the primary, once you rebuilt it you could just copy all the info from the secondary and the primary once again has all data.  It also works the other way.  If you lose the secondary, but still have the publisher, you can copy all the data to the secondary and it will be good as new with all the data.

The commands and scenarios you are looking for are:

Thanks Rob and cnuche for your answers. That's great!

As no points were given here and I've found the info to be good, I'll give out the points.
