I have a mailbox on our Unity Connection System (v10.5) which the users are not able to permanently delete messages. When they listen to new messages, they get the option to delete them, but they are still sitting there in the mailbox which is causing the mailbox to become full frequently. I told them to delete their deleted messages. When they go into the mailbox, they do not have the option to do so. I have tried deleting the mailbox and re-creating it on the system. The same issue still applies.
When I check my mailbox, I have the option do delete the deleted.
Has anyone seen this issue before? If so, how did you correct it?

from where are you trying to delete the voicemail from phone or from email ?
also when you delete the delete voice messages within Unity Connection, the messages are automatically moved to the Deleted Items folder, however those messages do not get deleted permanently until the message aging policy expires, once the message aging policy expires the the messages gets deleted permanently from the deleted item folders.
Have a look on the below docs for clarity.
Managing Message Aging Policies
Message aging policies can help ensure that the hard disk where voice messages are stored does not fill up. Each policy allows you to specify message aging rules to automatically:
- Move new messages to the Saved Items folder after a specified number of days.
This option is primarily useful for users whose message action is Accept and Relay the Message, which causes Unity Connection to relay copies of voice messages to an external mail account while also saving the messages to the Unity Connection message store. You can use this option to prevent users who only check voice messages using the external mail account from exceeding their mailbox quota.
- Move read messages to the Deleted Items folder after a specified number of days.
- Permanently delete messages in the Deleted Items folder after a specified number of days. In the Default System Policy message aging policy, this is the only rule that is enabled.
- Based on the age of the messages, permanently delete secure messages that have been touched in any way (for example by saving, deleting, or opening but then saving messages as new).
- Based on the age of the messages, permanently delete all secure messages regardless of whether users have listened to or touched the messages in any way.

Check if you have configured the message aging policy and you can try set it for 1 day and test if all messages gets deleted or not.

I tried that before. It was setup for days, yet it had 58 voicemails in the mailbox that were older than 2 days and did not have the option to delete them

Ok, this seems to be a bug, get this verified by Cisco TAC.

Could it be because those messages are secure messages? I believe the Aging Policy has additional options for Secure messages.
To avoid this in the future, in the Class of Service there is an option to delete messages without saving them to the delete folder.
