Hello Community,
How safe it is to change the Hostname field of a CUCM Publisher from Name to IP address?
I am thinking to do this change on the Server/ Server Configuration tab, but i want to make sure that i want miss the functionality of the Call Manager.
I need to point out is that i will not change the IP address, i am thinking to denote it in the server field instead of the name.
Thanks in advance for any response.

Hi
Yes, it's fine to change it there... THis basically just changes the references in the TFTP config files from name to IP.

I have done this many times without causing any issues.

Hi
Yes, generally in the 'servers' page you are better of with IP addresses set.
Other things to note when you change the hostname of the publisher:
- You must update the subscribers with the new publisher hostname in the OS admin pages or CLI
- If you have issued certificates to the tomcat server on the publisher, you'll need to re issue those
- Similarly you'll have to update DNS and any references to services such as EM that might point at the publisher

Hmm.. I went off on one there.. just realised you don't want to change the hostname, just the reference in the servers page.
So yes - that will be fine!

Thanks Aaron,
Actually i am thinking to replace the hostname (CUCM) with the actual IP address of the Call Manager to avoid DNS issues:
Do you think that this may cause issues?

Thanks for your prompt reply.
This is what i think as well, it is just that i want to make sure that this change wont affect the operation of the CUCM, since it is a live server.
Ideally, since the IP address remains the same then this change wont affect anything,
kind regards,
george
