Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) 14 has reached its End of Life (EOL), earlier than anticipated, because CentOS, the operating system it relies on, will no longer be supported by the GNU/Linux community. The lack of support for CentOS means that Cisco cannot continue offering updates or security patches for CUCM 14, leading to the decision to retire it.
However, Cisco has introduced CUCM 15, which is now based on Alma Linux, a community-driven enterprise operating system. The important takeaway is that CUCM 15 will not require users to adjust to a new interface or system changes, making the transition seamless. Both end users and administrators will experience continuity in their day-to-day operations, with no learning curve or compatibility issues with existing phones.
Cisco's focus on Alma Linux ensures a more stable, secure, and future-proof platform, aligning with ongoing updates and support from the Linux community. This change offers users an opportunity to continue benefiting from Cisco’s collaboration solutions without disruption.
