Dear Sir/Madam,
I want to upgrade our cucm from V9.1.1 to V11.5.1(su1),
I want to use prime collabaration deployment(PCD) V11.5.3 to migrate and upgrade CUCM,but after discuss with vmware vsphere administrator because sercurity policy reason , vmware vsphere adminstrator don't allow PCD connect to ESXi.
So i want to create a temparary lab to migrate and upgrade CUCM ,i have one pub ,one sub ,one im.here it's my project:
1 create a Vmware vsphere environment as same as product environment ,including network environment, this lab totally isolated from product network.
2 down load CUCM V9.1.1 VM from product ESXi datastore.
3 upload CUCM V9.1.1 VM onto lab esxi , and add to inventory on lab esxi server.
4 power on CUCM V9.1.1 VM on lab
//question: I copy CUCM V9.1.1 from one product esxi to lab esxi, if i power on copy version CUCM v9.1.1 VM, will I lose license on this VM? I think CUCM will check UUID, so i will lose license when I copy CUCM vm to another Esxi? If in demo mode(60 days) of CUCM, Can I keep whole database and confiuration of old V9.1.1 CUCM?
5 install PCD v11.5.3 on my lab , and migrate copy version CUCM v9.1.1 and upgrade to new version CUCM V11.5.1.
//question: If i use PCD migrate old CUCM V9.1.1( copy version), because copy version v9.1.1 vm lose license ( in 60 days demo license), can I migrate and upgrade CUCM version 9.1.1 to new version V11.5.1 and keep database and configuration ?
6 power down CUCM v9.1.1 vm on lab and power on cucm v11.5.1, and conntect phone ,router ,test compatible ,phone firmware, soft sip phone ,thirdparty phone ,
7 install latest device package under CUCM v9.x on product network ,and reset 70 phones each day untill all phone update fiirmware to latest version.
8 if ok, power down new v11.5.1 vm on lab, and copy new CUCM V11.5.1 file from datastore on lab esxi
9 copy new cucm V11.5.1 to product esxi , and add to product esxi inventory.
10 power down old cucm v9.1.1 pub( export license before power down)
11 power up new CUCM V11.5.1 VM , and call cisco license team transfer license from old version,vm to new version, new vm.
12 install license on CUCM V11.5.1 VM
13 power down old CUMC v9.1.1 sub , watch phone re-register to new cucm v11.5.1 pub and test
14 power up new CUCM V11.5.1 sub , watch phone register and test
15 power down old IM ,and power up new IM
test and test
many many questions
is this possible, is there any problem?
thank you!

Hi Tom,
I would like to make a couple of points:
1. Yes, you can set up this upgrade in an isolated network. Take a DRS backup of existing 9.1 cluster & install the same version in lab followed by a DRS restore. This will ensure all the database is copied over. From here you can do a direct upgrade to 11.5 without PCD since you are going to keep the same hardware.
2. For licensing related queries you can open a proactive TAC case by emailing licensing@cisco.com and they can assist with the license requirements.

Hi,Manish,
Thank you!
we will create lab next week.
I am not sure, Is PCD migration and upgrade a "clean" installl method?

Hi Tom,
I am not sure what your definition of clean is in this case. The PCD admin guide details the tasks involved and the impact on existing cluster , you can check the same and decide if you want to go for it

Hi,Manish
"clean" mean, when using PCD to migrate and upgrade CUCM, PCD just install new CUCM version as a new install and just import old cucm config and don't move other things, such as log, temp files, etc from old cucm.
I have a busy week , lab work will be delayed to next week
Customer drive me crazy!
thank you!
