CUCM 7.x to 9.x upgrade.

Hello all,

I have a fundamental question(s) regarding upgrade procedure of CUCM 7.x to 9.x version.

1.) Can I go through upgrade directly? with no need of 8.x upgrade first

2.) Does Cisco provide any valid procedure documentation for upgrade?

3.) Did anybody of you succeeded in upgrade upon virtual platform aka Vmware? If yes, any advice what should I avoid and what is on thye other hand mandatory?

Thanks for answers.

Randy

Hi,

1) It all depends on your current versions, some of them will allow a direct upgrade from 7 to 9, check page 16: http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr1.pdf

2) you can find it with all the CUCM docs at http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/unified-communications/unified-communications-manager-version-9-1/model.html#InstallandUpgradeGuides

The upgrade guide is: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/upgrade/9_1_1/CUCM_BK_UAEC4331_00_upgrade-guide-cucm-91/CUCM_BK_UAEC4331_00_upgrade-guide-cucm-91_chapter_01.html

3) You will need to do a DRS and restore it on the new server, check the bridge upgrade from the previous guide.

Hi,

Thanks for URLs...need to dive deeper as its first time upgrade.

Hi Randy,

You can also refer the link

https://supportforums.cisco.com/blog/154681

You  need  to follow the points

a.  Upload all the unused PAK to CUCM 7 prior to upgrading to 9.

b. Run the LCU 9.1.2 tool on PC which has reachability to Publisher.  The same u can download

http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=283782839&flowid=45898&softwareid=282204704&release=COP-Files&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest

c.The file needs to be shared with licensing team for getting Licneses for CUCM 9 which is on ELM[enterprise license manager].You also need to have ESW and UCSS contract for doing major upgrades.

d. As suggested, do take backup of existing CUCM 7 .

Assuming you're a partner, all the info is here

https://communities.cisco.com/community/partner/collaboration/migration

Depending on the version you have (BTW, saying 7.X is completely useless when asking about upgrades/migrations, FULL version is required), you might be able do a jump upgrade.

Hi,

old version is 7.1.5/new version will be 9.1.2. We would like to go Jump Upgrade way.

Iv seen Refresh Upgrade COP file is needed as well. I assume, file can be downloaded from Cisco repo, right? Otherwise no idea what it means, now.

Thanks for URLs...need to dive deeper as its first time upgrade.
