I've just setup my first CUPS server (8.6.4) and configured it to talk to my test CUCM server (8.6.2)
First indications are good: I can login to CUPS via an XMPP client (iChat, pigin, etc) and get (& set) presence of other users and send & receive IMs.
But I don't seem to be able to get presence state updates when I use my phone. (79xx series)
- The users are associated both with the phones and the line appearances.
- CUCM is defined as a presence gateway in CUPS.
- CUCM has a SIP trunk (with the correct parameters) pointing at CUPS.
- Diagnostics->System Dashboard shows nothing (apparently) wrong.
- When I go to Diagnostics->Presence Viewer->Devices, it shows the devices & the lines, but the lines have a question mark next to them with the pop-up text of "Presence Status: Unknown"
I can't see anything obivous in the logs on either CUPS or CUCM.
Throwing Wireshark at the problem, I can't see any SIP traffic between CUPS & CUCM.
I've tried rebooting both servers.
Can anyone offer any guidance on what I need to do ?
Thanks,

Have you assigned all users to CTI GW and CCMCIP profiles in CUPS?

I've enabled the default profiles for both CTI GW & CCMCIP.

Hi Gorden
on my system I had a similar issue - and made a couple of changes that got off hook status working for me -
1) On the SIP Trunk configuration of CallManager I had defined the Destination Address and the CUP server host name. I read somewhere it should be the IP address, but ignoring this I decided to change the destination address to the FQDN of the CUP server (as later I will need to set up DNS SRV's).
2) On the CUP server I had defined the Presence Gateway as the ip address of the CallManager Publisher, but this in fact should be a Subscriber, or rather a CallManager that runs the ccmservice. I changed the entry yto be ip address on one of our subscribers.
I'm not sure which change was the key for me (number 2 would be my guess) but on/off hook status now works OK for users (Jabber Windows client v 9.0.4)
Presence Viewer on CUP server seems to be only marginally better than useless though. The status does not always reflect the users status as displayed in the Jabber client for some users.

Solved it !
Licensing was broken on the CUPS server. (It doesn't help that the Cisco licensing tool spits out invalid CUPS licenses...) The CUPS server had reverted to Demo licenses, and demo licensing doesn't seem to support integrated presence.
