CUCM Security Password

Chris Bailey

Hi,

I've recently 'inherited' support of a CUCM 8.5 cluster.

I have the CUCM GUI and SSH passwords but no-one has been able to give me the security password.

Is is possible to reset the security password and if so does changing it have any impact?

If anyone is able to advise on best practices or what they would do in my situation that would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, you can reset the security password

What if the existing security password is not known?

The procedure mentioned by Jaime is for this situation only when you don't remember the existing OS/security passwords ( Steps 1 to 9 ).

Just to add that if your cucm is installed on UCS rather than MCS then in order to simulate the CDROM related steps you can  locate your Virtual machine on ESXi... Click on it, Properties and you will find the CD ROM Drive. Check the CD ROM Drive (for example, mapping it to a ISO File) and enable it.

Hi Chris,

You don't need to know the existing security password to reset it using the method mentioned by Jaime.

That's why I mention the procedure is to RESET the password, not to CHANGE it, if you want to change it, as any other system, the assumption is you know the current password.

Thanks for the info.

follow up question - is the security password needed when restoring from a CUCM or UCCX backup?

Yes

Or to add new servers to a cluster.
