Failure to upgrade CUCM from 11.0.1 to 11.5.1

Hi everybody,

So i have one publisher one subscriber. The Publisher has to versions i can switch between 11.0.1 and 11.5.1.

I have tried the following to upgrade the subscriber from 11.0.1 to 11.5.1

Make publisher 11.5.1 then initiate upgrade on subscriber

Make publisher 11.0.1 then initiate upgrade on subscriber

I always restart the servers after a change and make sure database is in sync before initiating the upgrade.

I transfer the installation file through SFTP and the whole download part of the installation goes fine and i get the question to upgrade after installation or not tried both answers there to.

Always ends up with the following on subscriber though.

"the remote file could not be accessed or fully downloaded"

and the log says following.

03/02/2017 16:29:46 upgrade_install.sh|Removing /common/rpm-archive/11.5.1.10000-6|<LVL::Info>
03/02/2017 16:29:46 upgrade_install.sh|File:/usr/local/bin/base_scripts/upgrade_install.sh:604, Function: main(), Upgrade Failed -- (1)|<LVL::Error>

Thanks in advanced.

Hi Per,

Can you try the following:

>> Reboot the cucm cluster , Publisher first and let it come up and then the subscriber

>> Install the upgrade file for 11.5 on Pub, do not switch version

>> Install the upgrade file for 11.5 on Sub, do not switch version

>> Switch version on Pub, let it finish

>> Switch version on Sub

Let me know if it helps.

Manish

Hi Manish,

Thanks for the reply

I tried but it still says error with following in web UI.

-/usr/local/cm-dbl-install L2 PostInstall 11.5.1.10000-6 11.0.1.20000-2 /usr/local/cm /partB/usr/local/cm /common/log/install/capture.txt failed (1)

-Failed to upgrade infrastructure_post comments

-/usr/local/bin/base_scripts/appmanager.sh -upgrade -basepact /common/rpm/-archive/11.5.1.10000-6 logfile /common/log/install/install_log_2017-03-03.13.32.12.log -resultfile /common/log/install/upgrade-results.xml failed (1)

This was on the subscriber after i hade downgraded to 11.0 on the publisher and rebooted both. Made sure their databases were syncronised before attempting to install the upgrade on the subscriber. I will attach log files from the installation attempt.

So after you rebooted the cluster the upgrade file was installed fine on the Publisher but failed on the subscriber?

Manish

Exactly, well to be precise the upgrade file have been installed before on both publisher and a subsriber and they have both been 11.5 but then the database became corrupted on the subscriber and i could not find a way to fix it without installing a new subscriber.

Henceforth the need to install 11.5 all over again on that machine. The publisher have them both installed from before.

Hi Per,

I would suggest involving TAC here as this may require you to get the bootable image of the target version from TAC instead of following the upgrade path, which is needed in some cases where troubleshooting fails to fix the upgrade.

Hi Manish,

I have the same issue when trying to upgrade my Cisco unity connection from 10.5.2.12901-1 to 11.5.1.12900-21. The subscriber will just not upgrade, I too rebuilt the subscriber as I saw an error in the cuc cluster status as disconnected. After the reinstall of sub this was fixed but the upgrade still fails.

I saw that you mentioned a bootable from TAC will fix it. If so what will be the upgrade steps. Currently this is the status:

1. Upgraded the pub to 11.5.1.12900-21.

there was a cuc cluster status issue so I rebuilt subscriber and this was fixed.

2. Upgrade of subscriber from 10.5.2.12901-1 is not working. logs attached.

If you can get a bootable of the same version 11.5.1.12900-21 then it can be used to install the sub and add to existing cluster.

it might late already but helpfull for someone: for this error "the remote file could not be accessed or fully downloaded"  use sftp instead of ftp, cisco bug CSCuz93073
