High Memory Consumed

We just installed a BE6K and both the publisher VM and Unity VM already shows a high memory consumed (at max, publisher at 5.91GB at 6144MB and Unity at 4.03 at 4096MB).

These VMs are brand new and have just been running in a week.

Unity also has a 4.00GB usage at 4096MB already.

What should the setting be and why is it so high already?

This might be causing the Cisco Prime License Manager not loading correctly.  It keeps hanging and trying to load the page. Should memory be increased and if so, to what? We will have to schedule a downtime for this or can we increase dynamically on the VMs?

Hi,

See the Memory usage from my Publisher that is freshly built with nothing configured on it

Memory Total: 3925868K
Free:               113532K
Used:              3812336K
Cached:          1051724K
Shared:           0K
Buffers:          124436K

So, this memory allocation / utilization on Linux is perfectly okay.

You see these high values because of the way Linux works. When the Linux system is not under memory pressure, all of the kernels caches will slowly grow over time. Linux prefers to keep larger caches just in case someone needs information in the cache. After all, there is no reason to return cachememory if no one really needs it. This cache memory is readily available when any process needs more memory.
