Hello,
I would appreciate if someone can tell me what's the real use of IM and Presence?. Is it a must when deploying VCS (for Jabber). Also I can see the availability of other users through phone without installing IM and Presence server. So why is it really used? Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,
Ajin Skariah.

You can certainly use Jabber as Phone only mode, but IM&P enables IM&P, you can enable XMPP/SIP federation to other companies, or intra-company to other systems, you can configure compliance to record all the messages, persistent chat, managed file transfer, etc.
Probably the data sheet would be the best place to read a summary of what IM&P offers.

Instant Messaging, ability for chat between users. Presence is limited to phone presence only on the phone, but true presence of a user is reflected by what the user is doing on his/her computer which you need IMP solution for.
