We will be doing a pilot of Lync integration with our Cisco 8.6 UCM server. Planning on doing the SIP trunk to the Lync server. We will have some users that will have the Cisco deskphone along withe Lync enterprise voice for when they are working from remote locations. We want the users to have one published telephone number to be used on their deskphone and lync client. How do we handle the remote call control for the lync client when they are not at thier deskphone? We are being told that the lync client needs to have thier own separate DID number.

This has been asked few times before so it may be helpful to search the forum, the short answer is there is no magic good solution to this as you really only have 2 options:
1. Use RCC for call control which involves using Mobile Connect on CUCM side and dedicating different numbers on Lync side. Not pretty, and not recommended by neither Cisco not MSFT
2. Use CUCI-Lync. Simple client based integration allowing to use Lync as IM and Presence client and Cisco cuci-lync softphone embaded onto Lync as softphone. With CUCI-Lync you want to disable enterprise voice capabilities on Lync though as otherwise it will lead to user confusion.

Thanks Chris, yes it doesn't sound like there is perfect solution, we are going to test cuci-lync but have heard there can be issues with high cpu utilization on the clients workstation and may cause issues with the video conferencing features.

So, to answer your original question with CUCI-Lync you do not provision enterprise voice capabilities on Lync and users simply have one phone number assigned to deskphone and CSF (CUCI-Lync) device in CUCM. Ideally you would use +e164 format for normalization.
