Networking w\ Octel, VPIM(VMO) and UM!

Hi all,

I am about to embark on testing the above configuration and have some questions...

Will the VPIM subscribers be entered into the AD in the same manner as Bridge subscribers? If so, is there a way to specify a new container for them to be created in? (similar to a previous question I asked about bridge subscribers)

For each Exchange voiceconnector, will there be a connector for VPIM, and separate for bridge? Or one connector to manage both? Any links or hints on this config?

Directory synchronization isn't supported by VPIM, is there any included Unity functionality that might help with this?

Thanks for the help, I'm sure I'll have more questions, I've only gotten through the first couple of networking chapters!

Aaron

Yes, VPIM subscribers are also created as Contacts in Active Directory. If they are created through the SA they are created in the default container defined at installation. If bulk import (CUBI) is used, then the container can be specified.

The same Voice Connector can be used for both Bridge and VPIM networking. If it is already installed for Bridge, then it needs to be uninstalled and then reinstalled - this time choosing the options for both Bridge and VPIM. Or if you'd prefer to have the different types of routing through separate Exchange servers, then the Voice Connector may be installed for VPIM on a different server in the network.

As of Unity 4.0(5) there is a VPIM Directory Update feature which provides for automatic updates, see http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/products_feature_guide_chapter09186a0080449a43.html#wp1260144. And as with Bridge, a different container can be specified for where to automatically create the VPIM subscribers by using the Advanced Settings Tool.

The VPIM networking chapter provides the details on using this feature: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/products_feature_guide_chapter09186a0080449aa1.html
