Hello Ben,
"CUPS has the capability to retrieve calendar (Exchange) status and populate to clients (CUPC). When your calendar status is "busy" in calendar, CUPC will display your status as "in a meeting"."]
Take a look on this link, from the HTLuo author of the book Deploying Cisco Unified Presence
http://htluo.blogspot.com.br/2010/03/calendar-presence-with-cups-and.html
The client that CUPS uses for IM, Presence is the Cisco Jabber

But when you're in outlook doesn't it show your status, or is that only if you are busy on the calendar or not?

Only if you have the calendar integration from Exchange with Presence. Your status will be " In a meeting".
But if you are with the client Outlook running with doesnt show the status "that you are in the oulook". The only client that the Cisco Unified Presence use for retrieve presence status about other people is the Jabber.
