RTMT Displaying Critical Service Down, However The Cluster is Stable.

Hi All,

Need a little ?

I have a CUCM Cluster consisting of 1 x Pub & 1 x Sub in a Dev Enviroment, we recently installed RTMT and noticed we get the following alarms

for the Pub and Sub.

Alert Name = Critical Service Down,     Severity = Critical,     Description = Service Status Down SNMP Master Agent

Alert Name = Critical Service Down,     Severity = Critical,     Description = Service Status Down Cisco Messaging Interface SNMP Master Agent

The alarms are genegrated every minute and is really annoying. Can't figure out why we keep getting this as the Cluster appears to be fuctioning ok.

Is there anyway to put a Halt to the alarms?

Please see my attached screenshot any help is appreciated.

Regards

Charles

Hi Charles,

Are your CUCM servers running on VMWare by any chance ? If so, you can do the following :

http://htluo.blogspot.com/2009/07/cisco-software-on-vmware.html  - limitation #2.

however, you would need remote access to the CallManager to apply the workaround, if you are infact running VM Ware. If you can't get remote access, the only option for you is to reinstall the CallManager servers, and not activate the SNMP service from the 'Service Activation' page.

Yes, from the Service Activation Window, don't activate 'Cisco SNMP Service'

These are precanned alerts for Critcal Service Down alarms in RTMT.  The SNMP Master Agent and CMI services that are listed here are considered critical services; however, they would not typically have any impact on system performance.  In fact, if you don't use SNMP then you wouldn't need the SNMP Master Agent service activated or started.  So, I believe the likely scenario here is that all of the services in the cluster are activated but not all of them are started.  In other words, you may have activated everything and then selectively started the services you need.  I believe if you deactivate the specific services referenced, you should stop getting these alerts.

Hi David,

If I deactivate every service in Service Activation and also stopp the servce in the controll panel.

Sriram.

How do I get to the Root?

Is this utilising a RedHat Boot Cd and entering the /mnt/sysimage, or are you reffering to CUM root.

Can you please explain.

Thankyou

Charles

Hi Charles,

You can enable remote account by SSH'ing to the server and running the command 'utils remote_enable'. You would then create an account by 'utils remote_account create 30'. However, you can't get the tool to obtain the remote account passphrase, using the password - it is Cisco internal.

So, you would need to rebuild your systems and not activate the 'Cisco SNMP Service' after that.

That being said, you can contact your Cisco account team to get permission to get the remote account information. The workaround is not supported by TAC, but you can do it, provided your account team agrees to this idea.

Sriram,

I assume you are saying if I build a New Dev Lab with CUCM and do not enable SNMP I won't get the Alarms in RTMT.

However If the service is enbled it will generate the RTMT Alarms and then I can't stop the Alarms even if the Service is diabled again.

Charles

That's correct.

Hi Srsivara,

I've build the dev CUCM twice, when you state do not activate the Cisco SNMP Service, are you reffering to Cucm Service Activation.

I've rebuild the CUCM twice.

Thanks for your Help

Glad to help, Charles.

Are they activated and running typically? If so, you may need to look at bugs or see if you can determine why the service is flapping?
