Translation Rule Question

I have a question about a translation rule, I work for a law firm and we recently hired a new partner and we assigned him a number to an employee who has been here for a while. The extension is 2801 and I gave the long time employee 2091, he is upset that he as to lose his number so my manager wanted me to create a translation rule on the GW that would forward 2801 to 2091. First I wanted to know wouldn't that cause an issue with the new partner getting his calls forwarded to the other employee also I wanted to mention that the new partner is in London and this other user is in Houston. And if it can be done does this translation pattern look configured correctly.

voice translation-rule 1
rule 1 /2801/ /2091/

Is it cme or cucm, there should not be any issue such as ?

The above translation rule will work but you should precisely defined it as below to avoid any modifications of numbers which contains 2801 in middle or end.

voice translation-rule 1
rule 1 /^2801&/ /2091/

If i undertsand this, service provider send's you 4 digit CLI and same if forwarded to the CUCM  and then you have both user's on CUCM.

If you are going to go ahead with above then how will the new employee receive the call as all his calls will be forwarded to 2091.Wouldn't it make more sense to give him a new extension which is separate or an extension which is no longer in use.

If i understand you correct then

2801 - Old extension given to new user.

2091- New extension given to old user

Translation rule is correct however all calls coming to 2801 (old extension) will be forwarded ro 2091 ( new extension). But it is not clear whether you have CME or CUCM and are you sending the calls over to PSTN for UK user..?

We are running CUCM 10.5.1 and all the calls to the UK user will be over the WAN, we are only going to 4 digit dial him.

If i undertsand this, service provider send's you 4 digit CLI and same if forwarded to the CUCM  and then you have both user's on CUCM.

That exactly what I told my manager, that the guy that previously had 2801 is just going to have to deal with it because the forward would send all the calls to the new employee.
