Question about "file types"
ucm compresses & saves backup files ending in .tar in the backup directory i set up on windows
winrar is on this server & i believe it might be changing the zips to rar. Does ucm create zip files
or rar files? Im trying to figure out if it matters & if i should remove winrar so backups are in zip format

That's for the default program, but that doesn't mean, that the files are changed.
It only means, that this program is automatically used, if you wanna open such a file type e.g. or work with it.

I agree with @b.winter on this. Installing an application will not change the file type, it would alter what application is used to open the file. Neither will have any effect on CM DRS.

Why should a program change file types by itself? Shouldn't matter if any archiving software is installed or not.
I hope I remember correctly, but I think CUCM stores them as rar files. But since I never cared about that (because why?), I'm not 100% sure.

thank you,
I think when installing winrar you get a option to set it as the default program to handle x,y,z (file types)
that may have been selected which causes all zip files to appear as rar files.
