Not sure if this is exactly what you meant in the Unified Computing section of this community... "root" is the default use for ESXi that I have always seen...
Could you please explain the background behind your question? that can give us a better idea of the reason for the question so we can better address it.
ESXi will be independent of the platform, so there is no issue whether you are trying to login into a C220, a B200 or any other vendor... ESXi is independent from that.
Maybe I am answering your question from a really basic perspective but I will wait for your feedback first.
