When logged in as unityadmin and lunching the status monitor, the following message displays:
Error: XML fetch failed -- possibly a problem with AvXml.dll or its permissions.
Check that the "AvXml" virtual directory settings in IIS have proper permissions and allow execute access.
Please see the Troubleshooting Guide for details.
This server is configured for failover. It's partner server has the IIS same cofniguration and the status monitor works.
any suggestions?

We are also having exactly the same issue, whereas once we loaded SR1 and the "Status Monitor" fails.
I checked out the article mentioned and confirmed that the Properties are correct, as well we downloaded and re-ran the Permissions Wizard, still no go.
Have opened TAC case but if anyone else has resolution please share.
Thanks

In our case, we applied the following Microsoft hotfixes:
ms04-044, ms05-001, ms05-002, ms05-003.
Rebooted. Shortly after the reboot, we started getting the error on this thread.
Last night we applied the following MS hotfixes:
ms05-004/008/009/010/011/012/013/014/015
Rebooted.
The Status Monitor is working correctly as of this writing.
Not, sure if the reboot fixed the problem or the new hotfixes. I'll keep you posted.

As it turns out there was a permissions problem within one of the IIS virtual directories. The patch somehow must have modified some permissions.
I confirmed the following settings and "Status Monitor" is functioning again.
Virtual Directory: Web
Execute Permissions: Scripts Only
Directory Security: Integrated Windows
Virtual Directory: SaWeb
Execute Permissions: Scripts Only
Directory Security: Integrated Windows
Virtual Directory: Status
Execute Permissions: Scripts Only
Directory Security: Integrated Windows
Virtual Directory: AvXML
Execute Permissions: Scripts and Executable
Directory Security: Anonynous (IUSR_XXXXXX)
Virtual Directory: StatusXML
Execute Permissions: Scripts and Executables
Directory Security: Integrated Windows
With the above settings, (Note: it did require a Re-Boot, as IIS Admin was having problems launching afterwards); every thing TOK.
