Unity design question

Customer already has an Exchange 2000 domain, abc.com. He plans to install another exchange 2003 domain xyz.com and create trust between the domains and move some of the users from the abc.com to xyz.com. Can unity co-exist with 2 different message stores in 2 different domains?

Can this scenario work if both the domain exists under the same forest?

Thanks

Hi Senthil -

Here is a good resource link to review - http://www.cisco.com/application/pdf/en/us/guest/products/ps4608/c1612/ccmigration_09186a008022f4a6.pdf

Check out the sections (page 3) that refer to Exchange administrative groups; LAN/WAN connectivity; and Unity global catalog and domain controller servers with regards to Unity server placement. In my example, we have 11 domains in the same AD forest, 6 of which have their own Exchange administrative group (although all are in the same Exchange organization). For these, we have a separate Unity server, each server is installed in the same subnet as its partner Exchange server (< 40 ms. response time between Unity and Exchange).

Regards,

Ginger

Thanks for the info Ginger. But situation here is

Forest - int-resources.net

Exchange 2003 - DC/GC

Domain name - INT-RESOURCES

unity users - 40

exchange 2000 - DC

Domain name - CEA-INC

unity users - 160

There is a trust between both the exhcnage and both the exchange follows the same GC which is the exchange 2003 server.

My question is can unity connect to exchange 2003 and still maintain the subscriber who are residing in the exchange 2000 server.

-Senthil

Unity can support multiple domains within a single forest, no problem. Keep in mind though that the Exchange servers and DC/GCs will all need to be in the same physical location as the Unity server. WAN links are out of the question.

Thanks,

Keith

Keith,

Thanks for your reply.

TAC said that unity will never function with this topology.

Here is my SR# 601706867 for TAC case notes

please clarify

You can rest assured it will work. If you want to see it in action you can watch my training video on the DC/GC reconnect tool.

http://www.ciscounitytools.com/App_DCGCReconnect.htm

Bottom line, it works and it supported.

Thanks,

Keith
