Dear Team,
We have a Cisco UCS 220 M4 server that is running with windows server. have configured RAID5 VD, right now we are facing disk full issue that is why we are planning to upgrade HDD.
Ordered 1.2 TB SAS HDD and adding in the existing RAID5 VD. now almost running 2 hours but still its RAID5 reconstruction status showing 8%. but it's a critical server so now we need to ON this VM.
Can we start the VM while running RAID VD reconstruction?

I've done this in the lab a few times and it does take a while (the more data on the existing VD the longer it takes), and you can boot while the reconstruction is running, but you will be adding I/O contention to the reconstruction process that will then take even more time to complete.
Also be aware, your I/O performance will be greatly reduced to your OS due to the background reconstruction competing I/O.
