B200M3 USB device Mapping

Hello Folks,

We need to map an USB Device (sms model) to a VM installed on ESXi5.5 on a B200M3, can this be done by using the one of the USB ports present on the server KVM Local I/O Cable ? if not any suggestion will be very appreciated.

Kind regards,

Kamal

Greetings.

General VMware notes for USB devices presented to guestVM can be seen at : https://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.vmware.vsphere.vm_admin.doc_50%2FGUID-3E6E58AA-2AD4-4370-9955-07E5FBDE800D.html  and https://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp#com.vmware.vsphere.vm_admin.doc_50/GUID-540EA00C-92A6-4562-AEE0-AEEDBAA2B02C.html#GUID-540EA00C-92A6-4562-AEE0-AEEDBAA2B02C

Cisco supports the KVM dongle for USB mice and Keyboards, although I have seen customers successfully use it for local USB drives.  The B200M3 does have an internal USB port meant to support a Cisco PID small USB drive.

What is the USB device you are trying to attach?  Thumb-drive/storage, etc?

This is something you can 'probably' get to work, but would not be able to put a TAC case in for if it doesn't work as it's not officially supported.

Thanks,

Kirk...

Hello Kirk,

I want to map a Sierra Wireless Modem MC8795V to a VM that is already on the B200M3.

At this time the modem is mapped to the VM by using the vCenter Client lunched from a bareMetal WIN2K8 where the modem is directly attached.

Kind Regards,

Kamal

For My case,

Done by putting the USB model on the KVM Cable USB port and on VM properties added the USB device.

Cheers,
