I have (2) C200 servers that do not boot, they both hang at "testing memory". I was looking inside the server I see a bunch of orange LEDs near the back that are labeled "POST LEDs"; however, I cannot find any reference to these anywhere. Anyone got the codes?
Thanks,
Justin

We don't troubleshoot with the internal LED that often, but if you see the server is stuck at the "Config and testing memory" it is very likely a DIMM issue where one or more DIMMs are failing the MEMBIST.
Advice is to try to boot with a single DIMM and then add DIMMs til you find which one is failing the MEMBIST (always follow the memory population rules which may be another reason for the failure)

Kenny,
I have tried that, I have tried numerous DIMMs in a 1 and 2 combo with no success. As soon as I power on the server it always beeps 3 times and those LEDs immediately go to orange in a certain pattern.
Why would Cisco have POST LEDs, if you don't use them to troubleshoot?

Justin

Those are LEDs that are lit up during POST, not LEDs that are used to troubleshoot issues... We rely on information that can be reviewed in the show tech and KVM instead.
Have you checked the System Event Log aka SEL log for possible reasons related to the POST failure or possible MEMBIST failure?

Kenny,
Understood.
I have not checked the SEL, not sure how; I assume it would be via the CIMC, however I have no idea what IP the CIMC has, since it never gets to that point.
I will see if I can get access to the DHCP server and see if it is obtaining an IP. What if the CIMC was set to a static IP, is there anyway to reset the CIMC to defaults?
Thanks,
Justin

if it was assigned manually, the way to get the IP is by rebooting the server and pressing F8 when you see the Cisco's logo, but as you said, the server does not get that far so you might want to open a case with TAC.

Kenny,
Thank you for the information, unfortunately it does not have service nor is it worth it to put under service, as it is about 3 years old. We will just toss it in the trash.
Thanks,
Justin
