Cisco UCS Blade Chassis Firmware

Hi All,

We recently order a new blade chassis, unfortunately the blade chassis will come with the new firmware (FW0014) UCS 3.1.

Our current environment is using previous firmware (FW0012) UCS 2.2 (6c). is the new chassis will be recognize by our UCS FI?

The reason is we are in "freeze" condition where we can't upgrade the current FI firmware without lots of approval from management, but we need to install the blades ASAP.

If the FI will not recognize the chassis, is there anyway to downgrade the chassis firmware version to 2.2 without FI?

Thanks

I assume you mean firmware of the IOM's, speaking of chassis firmware ?

No problem: if you cable the chassis to your FI, and configure the ports as server ports, the FI will automatically downgrade the IOM to 2.2.6c.

I also assume you have configured the global blade synch policy to upgrade any new blades inserted into this chassis to be synched with the current version.

Walter.

Hi Iputra,

As Walter mentioned by Chassis do you mean IO Modules? It would automatically be downgraded to the version that is currently running (2.2(6c) in this example). You would need to first connect the IOMs to the Fabric Interconnect so it can recognize that change.

A good guide below shows how to setup Server Ports:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/sw/gui/config/guide/2-0/b_UCSM_GUI_Configuration_Guide_2_0/b_UCSM_GUI_Configuration_Guide_2_0_chapter_0101.html#d44081e1030a1635

Also a great guide on Chassis Connectivity Policy to familiarize yourself with it:
