Cisco UCS - VMAX

hi

am having issues getting my cisco UCS servers to san boot off of my EMC VMAX storage array

the UCS chassis connects to a pair of Brocade 5100 FC switches which in turn connect to the VMAX

the WWNs of the UCS server are visible on the brocades, but show up as unknown initiators.

according to my storage guy that's the reason he cannot see them on the VMAX

anyone run into the same issue ?

Which UCS Version are you running ?

Go to

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/servers-unified-computing/unified-computing-system/products-technical-reference-list.html

and check the proper interop Matrix, regarding supported Brocade Firmware Version,.....

yes

the switch model and firmware is supported.

I assume UCS is configured in FC End Host mode (NPV) and the Brocade in Access Gateway ?

Are you using different vsan's for fabric A and B ?

What is the initator vhba pwwn ?

The EMC guys should be able to configure the VMAX, even if the Initiator didn't do a flogi; just give them the pwwn. They always ask for the flogi, but this is not necessary; my experience: they simply don't know how to do it.

Walter.

the brocade fiber channel switch is unable to determine if the wwn is an initiator or a target

till that shows us as initiator it wont login to the vmax

nothing can be done on the vmax till then

Can you please post a screenshot of

- Service profiles with hba's and pwwn's

- Brocade flogi database

i am all set

had to change the boot mode from EFI to Legacy

pls see 2 attachments

Shows that this has been done before, although with MDS, not Brocade; but this should not matter

- the pwwn format uses the Cisco prefix, so therefore Brocade should clearly detect this as Initiator

- the only weird thing I see is hba1 is fc1, hba2 is fc0; but this should not matter

-is the zoning properly done on the Brocade ?

Which OS are you trying to install ?

If it's ESXi, the install is quick; if you have a local disc, I would install ESXi on the local disk, and then check if you could see the lun.
