Error occurs when applying vSphere 8 Standard license in esxi 8.2 u2 e

We purchased BE6K-M6 and VMW-VSP-STD-1A.
I upgraded esxi to 8.0u2 and tried to apply the Vsphere 8 standard license, but an error window appeared asking me to apply the correct license. Is there any way?

"Please provide a valid license key"

From what I found, it says Enterprise Plus when in evaluation mode.

Is it necessary to disable the function to apply the standard?

Or do I need to obtain a license key separately through an activation code?

It would be helpful, if the screenshot would be in English, to see the error message^^

Thank you. Edited and uploaded.

Normally, in Eval Mode, very possible feature is activated automatically.
And if you apply a license, it shuts down not licenses features on its own.

About the license: Do you maybe pasted the PAK (it's like a container)? Instead of the license key?
IIRC, they have the same format, but PAKs have to be "activated" via the VMware portal first and just then you get the license key.

Thank you for answer. But when I first got my license, there was no PAK number, only an activation code. (Capture below)

And I don't confirm that I receive a license key with an activation key from Broadcom portal.

the Cisco licensing team said activation code was a license key.

The "Activation Code" in the screenshot is the PAK.
You need to activate it via the VMware / Broadcom Portal, only then you get the ESXi license code.

I moved this over to the UCS section of the community as it is not at all related to Collaboration.

I wrote Cisco doc:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/servers-unified-computing/vmware-esxi-cisco-ucs/220421-register-vmware-licenses-purchased-from.html

Needs some updates since the Broadcom acquisition, but the process should still be the same (Activate Cisco PAC/PAK on vmware.com / broadcom.com to get VMware Licenses). Per:

https://www.vmware.com/support/support-resources/licensing/oem-help.html

Hi @Steven Tardy  Thank you for your reply.

The VMWare OEM Portal will be handled by Broadcom following its acquisition.

wnrnjs75_1-1717981942476.png

And the answer I received from Broadcom is that only Cisco can process the activation key as a license key.

you=Me, the other = broadcom

I don't understand why both sides are handing it over to the other.

Since I purchased it through Cisco, I have opened a case with Cisco's licensing team and will request it until it is resolved.

Thank you.

I also had that ping-pong bullshit between both companies.

2 Months ago, Cisco TAC told me to write an email, but it took us more than 3 weeks to get any replies or any licenses in the end.

To resolve the issue the customer needs to work with their Cisco Partner to email VMware.
Cisco Partner will email: Partner.helpdesk@broadcom.com

Subject line = “OEM PAC Redemption”

Requires a VMware Part Number (not Cisco PID name)

Information that needs to be collected before partner can send email request to VMware:
 Customer Segment
 EA Number
 Customer Account Number
 Customer Name
 Customer Address with zip/postal code
Customer contact name and email address
 Product SKU
 SnS SKU
 Qty
Term dates (Start date and end date)
 Order Date

Good day.

We purchased Cisco equipment with OEM licenses for VMware software. It is not possible to activate these licenses, since the activation site is not available, including via your link. Is there anything we can do? As a result, we have expired papers on hand and no way to get the software. Will there be a solution?

Hello.
As we last checked, there is no longer a way to obtain a license key using the VM License activation code (not the License Key) purchased through Cisco.
So keep in mind that you have to purchase a new one through Broadcom and that this is a term license that needs to be renewed.

The vmware links don't work anymore.

I don't understand what you don't understand. And I also understand "you bought it from Cisco."

We/Cisco do not provide VMware licenses. Only VMware provides VMware licenses.
Cisco can provide a PAC, that PAC can be redeemed on vmware.com/broadcom.com.
Maybe the PAC is expired and Cisco (licensing) can re-issue a new PAC (if that is even still possible).

Did you get the recent email from Broadcom with subject:

First 5 Things to Do in the Broadcom Support Portal

Which includes #2:

ACCESS YOUR PRODUCTS VIA MY ENTITLEMENTS
All of your product entitlements, product downloads, and license keys
have been migrated to the Broadcom Support Portal and
can be located within the My Entitlements page.

Again, I know that I need to redeem the PAC from broadcom or vmware.

However, when you actually try to access the site(broadcom or vmware), there is no site that does such a redemption.
And Broadcom's answer is that there is no means of redeeming it.

I'd like to see if Cisco has any way to respond to this. There must be many customers who have already purchased this PAK(VMW-VSP-STD-1A), but are there any customers who have no way to activate this PAK and receive a license key?
