FCoE Issues

We are having some issues getting the QLogic QLE8142 to properly communicate to the Nexus 5020. We are not getting flogi messages (obviously vfc is not up). The CNA cards are coming up with a flashing green light and the ethernet interface is up on Nexus 5k. Any assistance would be great. We have verified the Nexus 5k config with other CNA cards with no issue.

We found the issue working closely with Cisco and QLogic. The QLE8142 CNA *only* works with the QLogic SFP+ SR optic - period. Cisco twinax, nor the Cisco SR optic works. Suggest to order the QLE8142 WITH the optics.

Check if dcbx (uses lldp protocol) negotiation of fcoe, pfc, etc completes OK, that needs to happen before flogi can be sent by CNA. You can check on N5K cli and CNA gui. You can also use ethanalyzer on N5K cli to pipe captured pkts to a file for viewing in wireshark.

What NX-OS version is on the 5020? What is the interface configuration? I assume "service fcoe" is enabled?

I have exactly the same problem with the qle8152. It only works with copper twinax :(

Per the Qlogic product information at: http://www.qlogic.com/Products/Datnetworking_products_landingpage.aspx

The 8152 is intended for copper only.

Yes it does state it but you would think that if ethernet works fine that fcoe/dcbx would work.

They should be a little more consistent and ensure that the card does not work full stop rather than only having some features work.

Cheers

In order to preserve the copper twinax solution, we installed the 8152s and we are now working wonderfully. We have been working great now for almost two months. So, rule of thumb:

Fiber using QLogic Optics 8142

Copper using Twinax 8152

There are the definitive host solutions.

Thanks to everyone for posting here. This is bound to be a common problem.

It was pretty hard to find the documentation stating differences between the two 2nd gen CNA's, but the different model numbers exist to differentiate the two supported media.

My QLE8142 works only with ACTIVE twinax cable.
