Hi, We have two Cisco UCS C-series servers (C210 M2) with VMWare Esxi 4.1.0 and we need to configure them for snmp monitoring using Cisco Prime. How do we do that. Please note that we do not have Cisco UCS Manager. We have CIMC though.
We use VMWare vSphere to manage the UCS servers.
Can you please suggest.

Greetings.
There are a few Rack servers listed as supported. The prime spec sheets mostly reference rack servers in the UCSM integration context.
Please check http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/cloud-systems-management/prime-infrastructure/products-device-support-tables-list.html for a list of supported devices per release version.
PRIME Infrastructure 3.0
Device Type | SYSOIDS |
Cisco UCS C220 M4 Rack Server | OID:1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.2178 |
Device Type | SYSOIDS |
Cisco UCS C240 M4 Rack Server | OID:1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.2179 |
Device Type | SYSOIDS |
Cisco UCS C3160 Rack Server | OID:1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.2180 |
Device Type | SYSOIDS |
Cisco UCS C260 M2 Rack Server | OID:1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1515 |
Device Type | SYSOIDS |
Cisco UCS C22 M3 Rack Server | OID:1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1684 |
Device Type | SYSOIDS |
Cisco UCS C24 M3 Rack Server | OID:1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1685 |
I do not believe the c210M2 will be supported, other than maybe a node up/node down kind of poll... Hoping someone from Prime will correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks,
Kirk...

Hi Kirk,
Thanks a lot for your response. I too came across the above information while I was searching. I am not a UCS guy basically hence I do not have much information on what exactly needs to be done.
Having said that, is UCSM a necessity for setting up snmp? We use CIMC and I have seen an snmp option in it.
Kindly advise.

For the supported models, I believe SNMP does have to be enabled. I am setting up some testing in the lab for some other rack servers in collaboration with one of the prime infrastructure engineers, and I'll confirm if xml only, or other mechanisms are alone supported for rack servers or UCSM.
I suspect the list of supported servers will probably grow (only M3 generation or higher), and just need additional testing.and qualification.
It will probably be next week, before I get a prime 3.0 infrastructure appliance deployed to play with.
Thanks,
Kirk

Hi Kirk, have you successfully connected UCS C-series servers with Prime Infrastructure 2.x/3x?

Oh, I was too fast :)
I successfully connect our UCS C220 M3 to Prime 3.1.4 (DP5). This is standalone server (not managed by UCSM). It doesn't have VIC card installed. It has HW RAID controller installed.
I ran discovery job and there it was: I can see almost full inventory (PSU, CPU/cores, fans, RAM/memory slots, NIC & HBA cards). Prime didn't detect RAID controller and HDDs.
