Options for upgrading one blade in a UCS

My UCS system runs 2.2(3c), with the exception of one of my blade, whichis running 2.2(1b).

I need to get that one blade upgraded to 2.2(3c). Everything else is already there.

After reading the instructions at the following page:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/servers-unified-computing/ucs-b200-m1-blade-server/110260-ucs-upgrade-bios-00.html, it seems that "the way" to update the firmware of just one blade is to:

  1. Create a Host Firmware Package policy specifying the correct component firmware,
  2. Associate that Host Firmware Package policy to:
    1. A Service Profile that is already associated with the blade (which will cause a reboot) OR
    2. A Service Profile that I then associate with the blade when I want it to apply & reboot.

Just so I understand my options, is this the only way to update the firmware on just one blade, or is there a more direct way that doesn't involve the policies and profiles?

Now that I really look into it, creating a Host Firmware Package Policy  and applying it to the server's service profile may be easier than separately updating adapter firmware, BIOS firmware, board controller, and CIMC controller. But I would still like to know my options.

Thanks

you can do it manually but it will require you to do it in the specific order necessary to complete it successfully, if you dont do it in the specific order, you may end up causing internal dependencies to be messed p, that is why we recommend the HFP... one step and the system takes care of internal dependencies...

I dont see an easier option than HFP.

To do it manually, go to the server> installed firmware and update the firmware and then activate it.
