Power supply missing error

I've done a new install of 1.4(2b) and on both chassis I cannot get rid of a warning message that says 'Power supply 4 in Chassis 1 presence: missing'. There are only three power supplies installed and power supply 4 is supposed to be missing. The power policy is n+1 and a chassis re-ack or warning message ack does not help. Any ideas how to clear up that message?

Hi Simon,

Can you post the screen shot of the fault?

Does changing the allocation method to "manual blade level cap" under the global power allocation policy, from the global policies tab clears the fault?

./Abhinav

Hi, I tried changing the global power allocation policy but that didn't help. Here is a screenshot of the error from a different new installation that has exactly the same problem. In this case there is a single chassis with two power supplies installed with power policy set to non-redundant and again I can't get rid of the warning message about missing power supplies. So both the new installs I've recently done using 1.4(2b) have the exact same problem and unfortunately I won't be able to upgrade to 1.4(3i) any time soon to see if this is fixed.

Thanks

Simon,

Are these two PSU actually installed on the chassis or not?

If they are not installed on the chassis then the faults you ae seeing are expected.

./abhinav

The power supplies are not installed so the warning is technically accurate. However I am not expecting the warning to remain in the GUI permanently without being clearable. It just doesn't make for a clean interface having constant errors being displayed. We do not see GUI warnings for missing blade servers when a chassis is not fully loaded, or warnings for missing SFPs when the fabric interconnects do not have all ports populated. Why the difference for power supplies? And what then is the point of the global power policy? If this is just the expected behaviour then I suppose I will make this a feature request instead.

Cheers,

Simon

Hi Simon,

A few things here:

1) The way the faults are treated in UCS: faults are not automatically cleared untill the condition causing it is not cleared or taken care off. In this case the fault will not clear untill the PSU is present / installed.

2) PSU is a essential component for operation and functionality of the chassis and the FI. There is no object created for them nor a configuration is pushed to them (do not confuse it with the power policy configuration), which does happens for the blades, ports etc. Keeping the importance in mind the warning is raised and not cleared.

Hope this help!
